Marriage is considered to be a sacred bond between the husband and wife. Marriage as an institution brings a societal order and stability. One of the essentials to marriage is the consent of the parties. When the consent of either party or both parties to the marriage is obtained forcefully, the marriage becomes void, and such a union is called a forced marriage. Forced marriage is a human rights violation and has been held to be illegal across the world. There are specific laws that protect the parties to marriage from a forced marriage.
Indigenous people are usually threatened regarding their sovereignty and also their human rights come into question because of the style of life they choose to have. However there are several international conventions which facilitate as well as safeguard their human rights.
